Who benefits from That Reading Thing?

Teens in any setting

Teens need an approach to reading that isn’t like anything they’ve had before. That Reading Thing is structured, sequential & rooted in the science of reading but also safe and relational with each learner's individual needs at its heart.

Mainstream Secondary

Big, small, urban, rural, great needs or just one student, state schools and fee-paying, outstanding schools and those that need some support. You'll find That Reading Thing in every type of secondary school you can imagine.

Alternative Secondary Settings

Alternative provision, Social Emotional Mental Health schools (SEMH), youth detention, hospital schools and many other settings that require a trauma informed approach to teaching reading. That Reading Thing was created for young people in these settings and it still thrives there.

Private dyslexia tuition

That Reading Thing is found in the toolboxes of private tutors around the world. Many of those tutors have also trained in other linguistic phonics (speech to print) interventions but are looking for something that's a better fit for their older students.

SEN Schools/Special Education

TRT is suitable for students with mild to moderate learning difficulties including dyslexia, social, emotional & mental health, autism and other SEN. If those needs are severe or complex, get in touch so we can advise.

Community volunteers, homeschooling etc

TRT's successful external evaluation was based on work carried out by youth workers and community volunteers. They did such a good job that schools started asking about us. We're also hearing from more parents who want to support their secondary aged children at home.
We are seeing some quite remarkable engagement with reading via the programme and incredible spin off in terms of self-esteem. Director of school improvement for a Multi Academy Trust
I had my 1st lesson with a student today. There were some excited expletives used when he spelt FANTASTIC for the first time. I’m sure you can imagine the smile on both our faces. Thank you for the work you have done in this space, your work is making a difference in the lives of our students. Kelley Krueger - Teacher & Reading Coach in a youth detention centre
I’ll tell you what’s different! They’re not making me memorize lists of baby words. I can spell (writes on board) condition, I can spell conditioner, I can spell conditioned, I can spell conditioning. Year 8 explaining TRT to the school's special educational needs co-ordinator
