Choosing text with your struggling readers

Choosing text with your TRT students
This is one of the final topics in our online training but we hope it will also inspire literacy teachers and tutors who aren't trained in That Reading Thing to think about choosing text for their struggling readers.
Our wish is that every That Reading Thing student experiences reading something they enjoy. The TRT 'rule' is that they should be reading something they wouldn't be embarrassed for their peers/friends/family to see them with.
Picking reading material is a fun and important part of your TRT experience and, after a bit of trial and error, you will find a couple of books that you just love to work with and your enthusiasm will be contagious.
Please remember, due to the diversity of TRT learners and tutors, it's up to each of you - tutor/organisation/school/prison etc - to do further research when making final decisions about texts for your students. Feedback is always welcome.
Note: Kindle is mentioned but there are other e-book readers and apps if your students like reading that format. Abebooks is mentioned because it's an excellent source of smaller businesses selling used books and the search function works well. Please let us know how you use other e-readers and used book sites. Budgets are tight but, if you have the money, please try to order new books from your local bookshop.
